The General Manager of Hospital Food Service is an exciting opportunity for an energetic and motivated manager who is constantly seeking excellence in service standards. This key leadership position is directly responsible for the successful operation of Food Services in a Hospital. The General Manager ensures client, customer service satisfaction with efficient cost effective management meeting and exceeding stated expectations. Providing strong leadership to a team whose focus is exceptional service, exceptional quality and driving customer service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for all foodservice related activities; including patient satisfaction, quality improvement, sanitation and infection control.
Directs daily food service operations in order to provide quality products, including menu evaluation, planning, purchasing, inventory, receiving, food preparation and storage.
Provides team leadership by ensuring cohesiveness at the unit and with the client.
Responsible for the selection, orientation and training and development of employees, including initiating personnel actions, such as the hiring and termination of employees.
Directs, trains, supervises, leads, evaluates and coaches all assigned personnel.
Plans, develops, implements, and revises organization policies, operations, and goals.
Develops and directs the maintenance of such typically required business reports, administrative matters, or materials, budget expenditures, operational reports, cost analysis and operational documentation.
Tracks financial data, reports, forecasts, and expenditures to achieve optimum efficiency, economy of operations, and maximize profits.
Establishes and implements an organized system of supervision and general operating procedures.
Is accountable for the delivery of high quality and cost-effective services as well as ensuring all activities and operations comply with applicable internal and external regulations, laws, and sound business practices.
Maintains excellent customer communications and relations that permit continuous improvement in provided services, efficient problem resolution, and acceptance of new services.
Maintains and implements sanitary and food safety conditions and training to adhere to auditing procedures and statutory regulations.
Supports an active safety program.
Continuously seeks to improve the quality of assigned activities.
Plans and implements an effective staff training program.
Takes positive actions to facilitate the employment of NANA shareholders.
Consistently demonstrates professional skills in efficiently carrying out assigned activities, using all forms of communications, handling of change, developing employees, solving typical business problems, and making decisions.
Menu development and receipt standardization.
Ensuring the kitchen meets TJC and CMS standards.
Manages subordinate supervisors and non-supervisory employees.
This position is responsible for the supervision of staff.
Supervisory Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit’s success also may be assigned.
Must have five (5) years management experience with a minimum of (3) years as general manager in an accredited hospital. The 3 of GM can be within the 5 years of experience.
Bachelor Degree in Food Services Technology/Management or related field; or an Associate’s Degree plus 3 years of directly related experience. In lieu of an Associate's or Bachelor's degree an additional 5 years of experience is required.
Must be a Registered Dietician or Certified Dietary Manager or be able to enroll to obtain one within 18 months from the date of hire.
Candidates with Hospital food service knowledge, including culinary experience is required.
Experience with financial, budgetary, accounting and computational skills
Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs such as MS Word, MS Excel MS PowerPoint and MS Outlook.
A valid Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under NMS’ vehicle insurance policy.
Contract requires employees to speak, understand, read and write English.
- Preference given for those with retail café/coffee bar experience.

Description of environment: This is an industrial kitchen located in a health care setting.
Physical requirements: Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, stoop, kneel, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift. Infrequently required to sit, crouch or crawl. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50lbs
Background position ranking skill levels:
Language skills sufficient to: 1) Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. 2) Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. 3) Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical skills sufficient to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, or volume.
Reasoning abilities sufficient to: 1) Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. 2) Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Daily client contact is required as is an outgoing personality and calm demeanor.
The ability to work toward accomplishing objectives with a sense of urgency and the ability to work effectively with a minimum of supervision or support.
Must be able to effectively organize people and business activities. Must be able to balance multiple activities with an attention to detail.
Analyzes facts, weighs consequences and identifies underlying issues and patterns.
