This position is represented by the Teamsters, Local 959 and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Teamsters, Local 959. If the person selected is not affiliated with the Teamsters Local 959 union, he or she must become a member in good standing within 31 days of beginning work.

DEPARTMENT: Solid Waste Services (SWS)

HOURS OF WORK: Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.. (Occasional overtime required).

LOCATION OF WORK: 1111 East 56th Avenue, Anchorage, Alaska

This Full-Time, Seasonal position will last approximately six (6) months.

Example of Duties:

Provide support to commercial frontload refuse collections by positioning commercial refuse containers, serve as spotter for vehicle maneuvering, operate a light-duty vehicle for commercial and residential can/bag refuse pick up, perform bulk items collections, shop cleaning, assist with container repairs, perform commercial and residential refuse collections as needed and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences:

High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent and some experience in the performance of unskilled, heavy manual labor tasks.

A Valid State of Alaska Class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with no air brake restriction is required by the time of hire. (Note: applicants with a restriction of "L - Vehicles without Air Brake Systems Only" are not eligible.)

Preferences:

Prefer applicants with experience performing manual labor and excellent customer service skills.

Additional Important Information:

If selected for hire, the applicant must be able to walk, bend, twist, kneel, push/pull, and climb into/out of cramped spaces; and lift/carry items weighing up to and more than fifty (50) pounds.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant's Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaskan Driver's License was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history. As a condition of employment, the person selected will be required to successfully complete a drug test prior to beginning work and will be subject to future periodic drug and alcohol tests on a random basis without advance notice.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the satisfactory review and completion of the Previous Employer Alcohol & Drug Test Information Forms. Names, addresses, and phone numbers for positions that required Department of Transportation testing for the last two years will be required in compliance with § 40.25 and § 382.405(f) and (h).

All required certifications and licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.

If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted Background Check. A Background Check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.

As a condition of employment, the person selected must provide a Teamsters, Local 959 Union Dispatch Referral Form by the time of hire.
